Set up your Planning Poker game


Predictable sprints are directly linked to task estimations, however, getting people to estimate their tasks can be very frustrating. Using Planning Poker you can turn task estimation from a chore that never gets done to a fun game with unbiased and balanced estimates.

Set up your game

To set up a game of Planning Poker:

  1. In the navigation panel choose the relevant team or choose “Public boards” if you want to create a public planning poker game.
  2. Click on "Create new" or directly on “Planning poker”.
  3. Enter your game name.
  4. Update your display name to be super awesome (or just leave it as it is 🙂)
  5. Choose the metric system, how to calculate the results:
  6. Average
  7. Median
  8. Consensus
  9. Choose your voting system:
  10. Fibonacci
  11. Modified Fibonacci
  12. T-shirt
  13. Create your own deck
  14. Click “Create”.

Invite members to the game

After creating the game:

  1. Click on "invite members" on the top left.
  2. The game link will be copied to your clipboard.
  3. Paste the link in your team communication channels or send it by email.

Note: You can invite up to 10 team members to the planning poker game.

Join a game

To join a planning poker game:

  1. Use the link that was shared with you by the game facilitator.
  2. Log in to your GoRetro account.
  3. Enter your game display name.
  4. Click "Join game" and you are in!

Note: Your team members must be logged in to their GoRetro account to play.

Update your game settings

To update your game settings:

  1. Click on the settings icon.
  2. Click on game settings and update any of the following:
  3. Game name
  4. Voting system
  5. Metric system - allow you to display the results in different metrics such as average, median, or consensus.

To change your display name:

  1. Click on the settings icon.
  2. Select “Change display name”.
  3. Update your display name and save the changes.

Import your tasks

Follow these steps to import your tasks straight from your project management tool using a CSV file:

  1. Click “Add issue” on the right
  2. Import CSV to bulk upload your issues :
  3. In Jira, export your relevant issues list, then click "Import Jira CSV" and drag the file. All your Jira issues will be uploaded and ready to vote on.
  4. In Azure DevOps CSV export your relevant issues list, then click "Import Azure DevOps CSV" and drag the file.
  5. Click "Import Custom CSV" to upload issues from any other project management tool you use. The CSV import supports the following columns:
  6. - Key (optional)
  7. - Title (required)
  8. - Description (optional)
  9. - Link (optional)
  10. Click "Add new issue" to add your issues manually.
  11. Start voting on issues!
